CENTREVILLE, Va. - The UNC Wilmington women's cross country team finished fourth overall and the men came in fifth place in the George Mason Invitational Cross Country Invitational early Saturday at Bull Run Regional Park.
Senior Kathleen Casto (Grimsley HS/Greensboro, N.C.) and sophomore Wil Zahorodny (Damascus HS/Damascus, Md.) were the top runners for the Seahawks. Casto clocked a time of 22:32 over the 6K layout in the women's race to come in 19th out of 86 runners. Zahorodny, meanwhile, finished 26th out of 109 entries with a 26:08 time on the 8K men's course.
Virginia swept both races and featured the top runners in each division. Emil Heineking won the men's race with a 24:37 time and Catherine White captured the women's title with a 20:41 finish.
UNCW has one race remaining before the CAA Championships on Oct. 31. The Seahawks travel to Boone, N.C., for the Blue Ridge Mountain Open on Oct. 16 as a tuneup for the conference meet.
