Possessing a unique blend of power and finesse, Gene Bogash was one of the most dominating players in the junior college basketball ranks during his career at Wilmington College.
The Winnimac, Ind., native sparked the Seahawks to two straight appearances in the National Junior College Basketball Tournament in 1961-62 and 1962-63, collecting All-Tournament honors in both appearances. He was selected as the Most Valuable Player in the 1963 National Tournament after scoring 182 points in six games during the five-day affair. Bogash went on to enjoy an outstanding career at Drake University, where he collected All-Missouri Valley Conference honors with the Bulldogs. Bogash, who averaged 27.1 points for the Seahawks during the 1963 season, was named to the All-Time, All-Tournament NJCAA basketball team by “The Hutchinson News” in Hutchinson, Kansas. In 1991, Bogash was inducted to the National Junior College Basketball Hall of Fame located in Hutchinson. |
