WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia - The UNCW men's team finished fourth and the women came in sixth place at the Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country Championships Saturday on the grounds of Eastern State Hospital.

William & Mary captured both titles behind runners Alex McGrath and Elaina Balouris. McGrath clocked a 24:04 time over the 8K course to give the Tribe its 13th consecutive men's championship. Balouris, meanwhile, covered the 6K women's course in 20:43 to help the Tribe snap James Madison's two-year hold on the crown.

Junior John Riemer was UNCW's top runner for the fourth time in six races this season. He posted a 26:17 time for 25th place overall out of 46  runners.

"The men's race went about as expected," said Layne Schwier, UNCW's assistant cross country/track and field coach. "William & Mary and George Mason dominated. We hoped to mix it up with Northeastern, but just weren't quite on their level. We didn't get that front three-pack we were counting on. John Riemer ran solid and freshmen Tommy Schotzinger and sophomore Mike Parsons really came through. Everyone ran better than the last time we were here, but we've still got a ways to go.

On the women's side, junior Ashley Wybersky led the way for the third straight race, placing 25th out of 82 entries with a time of 22:38.

"I was disappointed with the women's race," added Schwier. "We hoped for a top-four finish. We just didn't get the races we needed out of everyone. The women's meet is so competitive that is you're off, you're done. Fifth place was right there. Rachel Quinn did a great job staying close to Ashley (Wybersky) and senior Katy Haran really came through big today."

The Seahawk teams will continue training in preparation for the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 9, in Charlotte.
