WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW head men’s soccer coach Aidan Heaney has announced his team’s spring schedule which is highlighted by games with the Wilmington Hammerheads and NC State in the second annual “Harry’s Game.”
“I view the spring season as a preparation season to be ready to go in the fall’” said Heaney. “We look to improve our players technically, tactically and physically but also look to further develop their understanding as a team. To do that we have some very challenging games that will be sure to test our players and we shall see how they handle playing against professional players as well as strong college players. Level of performance and improvement are more important during this phase than the results of the games. I am looking forward to seeing how we progress. ”
The Seahawks and the Hammerheads, who play in the USL Pro League open the five-game slate on Mar. 22 at Legion Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
UNCW then hits the road for back-to-back weekends beginning in Mar. 29 against Virginia Tech in the ACC Challenge at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. The Seahawks then head to Rock Hill, S.C., for games against South Carolina and host Winthrop in the Manchester Cup.
Rounding out the schedule is the second annual Harry’s Game, on April 12, which benefits Cape Fear Top Soccer Program. The program for kids with special needs benefitted from proceeds from the game, which was named after UNCW Head Coach Aidan Heaney’s son, Harry, who was born last fall with Down ’s syndrome. The kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
