Release: 10/28/2012 WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Thomas Driver's goal just prior to intermission lifted UNCW to a 1-0 win over visiting Towson in Colonial Athletic Association soccer action on Sunday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium. The win clinched a berth for the Seahawks in the conference championship tournament next week. The Seahawks raised their record to 7-9-1 overall and 4-5 in the league. The Tigers, meanwhile, saw their season come to a conclusion with a mark of 4-10-2 and 2-6-2. UNCW had opportunities and controlled the run of play in the first half, but it wasn't until the 43rd minute that it was able to get on the board. Sophomore Jamie Dell beat his defender to the end line and sent a short cross from the left side. Driver, who was unmarked, ran onto the serve and delivered his first goal of the season. The Seahawks fashioned a 17-8 advantage in shots and 12-7 in corner kicks. Sam Williams made two saves in posting the clean sheet. Felix Peterman made three stops for TU before suffering an injury in the 52nd minute and giving way to Conor Kregecz, who finished with five saves. Peterman had played every minute of the season for the Tigers in goal prior to the injury. The Seahawks visit Delaware on Wednesday in the regular season finale for both sides. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. |
