The Seahawks face a daunting stretch when they take on three NCAA tournament
programs in James Madison (Oct. 10), Old Dominion (Oct. 13) and Georgia
State (Oct. 17). All three matches will be played at the UNCW Soccer
|Head Coach Aidan Heaney owns a record of 97-100-23 in 11+ seasons with the Seahawks.He's second to Calvin Lane (129) in most wins by a UNCW coach.|
|The Seahawks had four players sign professional contracts off the 2011 squad. Brandon Miller (Rochester), Daniel Roberts (Wilmington), Christian Davidson (Wilmington) and Josh Boone (Dayton). All played in the United Soccer League.|
The Seahawks close out their non-conference schedule with Duke as both teams look to return to the win column. UNCW was topped 2-0 at George Mason while the Blue Devils posted a 0-0 draw with #16 Wake Forest.
Seahawks In CAA Opener, 2-0
Bolstered by goals from Taylor Morgan and Timmy Mulgrew, George Mason topped UNCW, 2-0, in the Colonial Athletic Association season opener for both sides on Saturday at George Mason Stadium. [Story/Box Score]
Twice, But Seahawks Felled By Last Second Goal
Despite a pair of impressive goals by freshman Colin Bonner, Binghamton's Jake Keegan scored his second goal of the afternoon with one second remaining on the clock to lift the Bearcats past the Seahawks, 3-2, in the UNCW/Hilton Garden Inn Classic. [Story/Box Score]
Sophomore Jamie Dell and junior Michael Parrish were named to the Hilton Garden Inn Classic all-tournament squad. Saint Mary's won the tournament with six points. BU's Jake Keegan was the Most Outstanding Offensive Performer while SMC's Andre Rawls was the Defensive MVP.
A Look At Duke
Enter the week coming off a scoreless draw with nationally-ranked Wake Forest over the weekend … Had won its last two matches prior to the tie … Owns a 2-0 mark against CAA opponents (3-0 Vs Georgia State, 2-1 vs. Delaware) … Sebastian Ibeaghan leads Blue Devils with seven points on three goals and an assist … In goal, James Belshaw has fashioned a 0.69 GAA with 29 saves.

The Blue Devils used three second-half goals to break open a one-goal game a tthe half for a 4-1 win in Durham last fall. Etienne Boulanger netted UNCW's lone goal of the game. [Story/Box Score]. UNCW trails in the all-time series, 15-5-1 [Results].
UNCW was picked in a tie for eighth with Hofstra in the 12-team circuit in a vote of the league's coaches (story). The CAA sent four teams to the NCAA tournament including conference champion Delaware, who claimed the league title for the first time. Joining the Blue Hens in the 48-team tournament were Old Dominion, James Madison and Georgia State. ODU was picked by the league's coaches to win the conference title and received nine of a possible 11 first-place votes. James Madison received one vote and was second followed by defending champion Delaware. William & Mary and Northeastern rounded out the top five.
Tough Slate Awaits
UNCW will tackle a tough schedule in 2012 with seven teams appearaing in TopDrawerSoccer.com's preseason top-48. Duke, who is eighth on the list, is one of five of those teams to play at the UNCW Soccer Stadium this season. The Seahawks also have the distinction of playing the top three teams in the Southern Conference in the forms of Furman, Coll. of Charleston and UNCG.
Senior midfielder Etienne Boulanger was honored by the league's coaches by being named to the preason honorable mention All-CAA squad. Boulanger is UNCW's top-returning career scorer with 29 points on 13 goals and three asists. Last season, he totaled five points on a pair of goals and an assist.
Name Tags Needed
Coach Heaney welcome 15 newcomers to the program this season. Eight saw action during the preseason including freshmen strikers Colin Bonner and Joel Perrell. Both played well during their time on the field with Bonner starting against NC State and Perrell scoring UNCW's lone goal against the Wolfpack. The Seahawks enter the season with no returning minutes in goal after All-CAA goalkeeper Brandon Miller played every minute in 2011.
