WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW standout goalkeeper Brandon Miller has signed a contract to play for the Rochester Rhinos of the United Soccer League's Pro League.
"I have had the chance to see Brandon play on a couple of different occasions." Rhinos Head Coach Jesse Myers said. "Each time I came away impressed with his ability to do his job. When you throw in the fact that he's been mentored by Aidan Heaney, a former keeper with the New England Revolution, it made it a fairly easy decision for us to make."
Miller joins the franchise after earning first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors in the fall. The Charlotte, N.C., native concluded his career with the Seahawks ranked among UNCW's all-time leaders in career save percentage (.749, 8th). In four seasons, Miller posted a 1.27 goals against average and eight shutouts. As a senior, he recorded three of those clean sheets in wins over Wofford and Drexel and a draw at Southern Conference champion UNC Greensboro.
"I'm delighted that Brandon has this opportunity to continue his career at the professional level," said Heaney, who completed his 11th season with the Seahawks. "Brandon is a hard worker who will continue to improve as he climbs through the ranks."
Miller joins former Seahawk great Brad Knighton and Brock Duckworth as goalies who have signed professional contracts during Head Coach Aidan Heaney's 11 seasons at the helm. Knighton, who played for the Carolina Rail Hawks of the NASL last season, reached the Major League Soccer level playing for New England and Philadelphia. Duckworth, meanwhile, completed his first season at the professional level with the Wilmington Hammerheads.
