WILMINGTON, North Carolina - In an evenly played game, VCU escaped the UNCW Soccer Stadium with a 1-0 win over UNCW with an own goal in the 64th minute on Wednesday in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer action.

The Rams improved to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in the league. The Seahawks, who saw their winless streak stretched to five games, dropped to 3-10-1 and 1-6-1.

On the game's lone goal, VCU's Jason Johnson collected a pass to the right flank and sent a low cross into the penalty area where a UNCW defender deflected the ball into the goal at the 63:16 mark.

VCU held a 10-8 advantage in shots in a relatively foul-free match with each side committing three fouls.

Josh Pantazelos made four saves on the night for his sixth shutout of the season for the Rams. His opposite number in Brandon Miller collected two saves, both in the second half.

The Seahawks visit CAA rival Towson on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
