WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW's Jack Ward notched his second goal of the season early in the second half, but Northeastern rallied with a goal of its own to forge a 1-all draw in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer action on Saturday.
The Seahawks (3-9-1, 1-5-1 CAA) halted a three-game losing streak with the draw while the Huskies (7-4-2, 3-2-1 CAA) extended their unbeaten streak to three.
Following scoreless opening 66 minutes, Ward received a cross from the right side and beat his defender to the ball. He crossed in front of the defender and sent a shot from 12 yards out inside the far post for the opening goal of the evening.
The Huskies, though, answered in the 74th minute to draw even. Ryan Burnham was the beneficiary of a poor clear and scored the tying goal. NU's Mike Kennedy sent a corner kick into the penalty area where a UNCW defender attempted to settle and clear the ball, but was unable to get it past Burnham, who buried his strike to the right of UNCW goalkeeper Brandon Miller.
Both teams had opportunities late in regulation and overtime, but NU goalie Oliver Blum and Miller were up to the task, finishing with seven and six saves, respectively.
The Seahawks host VCU on Oct. 19 for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
