NORFOLK, Virginia - Yannick Smith netted three goals and Old Dominion fended off the Seahawks in the waning minutes of regulation for a 3-2 win over UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer action on Saturday.

The Monarchs, who were ranked 21st nationally, improved to 7-2-0 overall and 3-1 in the league. UNCW, meanwhile, dropped to 1-4 in the conference and 3-8 on the season.

ODU built a 3-0 lead as Smith scored three times in an 11-minute span that started before the half and ended early in the second.

Trailing, 3-0, the Seahawks were able to cut their deficit to two on senior Shawn Guderian's second goal of the season in the 87th minute. Senior Daniel Roberts added his fifth assist of the season on the goal and he would strike less than 90 seconds later on a penalty kick to make it a one-goal game.

The Seahawks close out their three-game road stretch on Oct. 12 with a 7 p.m. start at Georgia State.
