Release: 09/17/2011 WILMINGTON, North Carolina - John Ciampa's goal in the 57th minute lifted William & Mary past UNCW, 1-0, in the Colonial Athletic Association season opener for both teams on Saturday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium. The Tribe evened its record at 3-3 overall and halted a brief two-game losing skid. The Seahawks, meanwhile, saw their own two-game winning streaked halted and dipped to 2-4 on the season. The game-winning goal came at the 56:19 mark when Joshua West settled a ball at midfield and sent a high cross into the penalty area. Ben Anderson out leaped his defender and headed the ball to Ciampa, who sent a volley inside the right post for the game's lone goal. UNCW mounted a comeback late in the second half, but W&M keeper Colin Smolinsky came up with four of his six saves on the evening to keep the Seahawks at bay. UNCW's Shawn Guderian had a pair of shots on frame in a minutes span, but Smolinsky knocked both shots away for corner kicks. UNCW held a slim 11-9 advantage in shots and 8-4 in corner kicks.
