WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Former UNCW soccer standouts Brock Duckworth and Devan Carroll have signed professional contracts with the Wilmington Hammerheads for the 2011 season.

"We're excited that two of our own are going to have an opportunity to play at the next level," said UNCW Head Coach Aidan Heaney. "The fact that they can do so here in Wilmington with the hometown Hammerheads makes it even more special."

The Hammerheads will play in the America Division of the newly-launched United Soccer League Pro.

"UNCW has been extremely successful in the recent past and we're lucky that we can utilize their players for our program," said longtime coach David Irving. "I'm thankful to have such a great relationship with the entire UNCW men's soccer program and will continue to utilize the talent they bring to Wilmington."

The 6-1, 215-pound Duckworth, out of Plano East High School in Plano, Texas, was a four-year starter for the Seahawks and  Heaney. Duckworth finished both his junior and senior season ranked nationally in goals against average and save percentage. He helped the Seahawks to their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2009 after posting a 0.64 goals against average, ranking 10th, and was second nationally with a .886 save average. As a senior, he became UNCW's all-time leader in GAA with a 1.07 GAA.

"Brock had a great collegiate career and now has a great opportunity to make his mark at the professional level. I am confident that he will make his mark as a Hammerhead," said Heaney.

Carroll, a graduate of White Oak High School in Jacksonville, N.C., played three seasons for the Seahawks at the striker position and notched 10 career goals. In 2008, he had a spectacular year with nine goals and was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Player-of-the-Year when UNCW won its first regular season title and hosted the conference championship.

"Devan will be a very effective player for us with his quickness and ability to put the ball in the back of the net. He has great pace and knows where the goal is," added Irving.

The Hammerheads open their 2011 season by hosting the Rochester Rhinos on April 16. Ticket prices for games are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (65-older) and $6 for children 12-under. VIP tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $15 for children.

Special group rates are also available. For more information, contact the Wilmington Hammerheads at 420 Raleigh Street, Wilmington, N.C., 28412, or call 910-777-2111.
