Release: 10/30/2010 NEWARK, Delaware - Vincent Mediate's goal early in the second half was the only goal Delaware would need as UNCW fell 1-0 to the Blue Hens on Saturday in men's soccer action at the Delaware Mini-Stadium. The Seahawks (7-6-4, 3-3-4 CAA) saw their winless streak extended to seven with the set back. The Blue Hens (5-8-3, 4-4-2), meanwhile, knocked off the Seahawks for the first time in the nine-game history of the series. Following a scoreless opening half, Mediate provided the winning margin in the 48th minute. Mediate's shot took a carom off a UNCW defender and snuck inside the right post. UD goalkeeper Brandon Paul made seven saves on his way to recording his second shutout of the season. His biggest came in the waning seconds when he made a save on a direct kick from 35 yards out by junior Shaun Utterson. Brandon Miller made four saves for UNCW, which outshot the Blue Hens by a narrow 15-13 margin. The Seahawks visit George Mason on Nov. 6 for their final game of the regular season. |
