WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia - Nicholas Abrigo scored with 41 seconds remaining in the first overtime to lift William & Mary over UNCW, 1-0, in a Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer game on Wednesday at the Martin Family Stadium.
The Tribe (12-2-1, 7-1-1 CAA), ranked as high as 16th in the national polls, clinched home field advantage for the CAA Championship tournament with their seventh straight victory. The Seahawks (7-5-4, 3-2-4 CAA), meanwhile, saw their winless streak extended to six and stand at 0-2-4 in that span.
The Seahawks fell back into a three-way for third with 13 points as Hofstra leapfrogged the Seahawks, VCU and Georgia State with 14 points following a 2-1 road win at George Mason.
For Abrigo it was his third goal of the season and was set up by Jimmy Carroll. Carroll served a long ball from the left side to Abrigo who collected the pass and beat UNCW senior goalkeeper Brock Duckworth to the near post for the game-winner at the 99:19 mark.
Duckworth finished with seven saves as the Tribe peppered the goal with 19 shots on the evening.
Tribe goalkeeper Andrew McAdams faced 13 shots, but just three were on goal as he posted his fifth shutout of the season.
The Seahawks visit Delaware on Oct. 30 for a 7 p.m. start.
