WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women’s golf team makes its first appearance of the season in the Tar Heel State this week as it travels to Greenville for the ECU Lady Pirate Intercollegiate at the Greenville Country Club.

The 54-hole event will feature 36 holes of competition Monday on the par 72, 6,004-yard layout. The final 18 holes are scheduled for Tuesday. Action on both days is slated to begin with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:25 a.m.

The 16-team field will have a distinct regional feel to it as the Seahawks are joined in the field by fellow in-state programs Appalachian State, host East Carolina and Elon. UNCW will also get its first look at some of its fellow Colonial Athletic Association competitors with league foes James Madison and William & Mary also in the lineup. Boston College Chattanooga, East Tennessee State, Georgia State, Longwood, Maryland, Middle Tennessee State, Old Dominion, Penn State and Winthrop round out the tournament field.

The Seahawks return to the ECU Lady Pirate Intercollegiate looking to duplicate their success during last year’s rain-shortened edition of the event, where they finished in a tie for first with Maryland after 18 holes when the event was called due to unplayable conditions. The Terrapins were crowned tournament champions by way of a fifth-player tiebreaker.

Senior Lori Beth Adams is off to a solid start in her final season of collegiate competition as she leads UNCW with a 73.50 stroke average through six rounds played. Fellow seniors Laverry Kumar (78.66) Megan Burnham (79.66) sit second and third, respectively.

Senior Jeanne Metivier, junior Mallory Warrick and sophomore Elizabeth Hall will also take part in the ECU Lady Pirate Intercollegiate. Head Coach Cindy Ho will make her final decision in regards to lineup prior to the start of Monday’s first round.

UNCW completes the fall portion of its schedule Oct. 25-27 as it hosts the 2013 Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall.
