SIMPSONVILLE,
Kentucky - Junior Lori Beth Adams
fired a one-over-par 73 Tuesday to earn her second consecutive top 10 finish and
lead UNCW in the final round of the Cardinal Cup at the Cardinal Club Golf
Course.
Adams finished the 54-hole event in ninth place with a five-over-par scorecard of 221 (75-73-73) to give the Burlington, N.C., product her second straight top 10 finish after opening the season with an 8th-place result in the Terrier Intercollegiate last week. Junior Laverry Kumar (75-75-74=224) and freshman Johanna Bjoerk (74-76-74=224) ended the event three strokes back of Adams, part of a four-way tie for 14th. Senior Danielle Lamy (79-86-87=252/80th) and sophomore Mallory Warrick (85-90-87=262/85th) completed the Seahawks lineup. "I was really pleased with how Lori Beth, Laverry and Johanna played this week," said UNCW Head Coach Cindy Ho. "The only other team to have three players finish in the top 15 was Missouri, so it was a very strong showing for the three of them. They played solid golf under difficult conditions in all three rounds and they showed their resilience today by bouncing back after getting off to a slow start given our starting position for the round." The Seahawks combined for a team total 308 during Tuesday's final round to finish with a tournament scorecard of 921 (303-310-308), one shot back of ninth place Georgia State (307-292-321=920). Louisville captured the tournament title for the fourth time in the 10-year history of the event, carding a three-round total of 896 (294-297-305), one stroke ahead of second-place Missouri (291-308-298=897). Chattanooga claimed third (300-301-300=901) while Cincinnati (299-297-309=905) took fourth. Louisville's Emily Haas led wire-to-wire to capture individual medalist honors, posting a one-under-par 71 in the final round to cruise to a five-shot victory over the field with a tournament scorecard of seven-under-par 209 (69-69-71). UNC Greensboro's Fanny Cnops carded a 68 in the final round to claim second with two-under total of 214 (73-73-68) while Cincinnati's Mackenzie Moir took third with a two-over result of 216 (71-74-73). UNCW returns to action Oct. 1-2 in the Windy City Classic at the Glenview Golf Club in Glenview, Ill. |
