Seahawks Take Lead At CAA Championships

Release: 04/21/2012 SOUTHPORT, North Carolina - The UNCW women's golf team combined for a team total 305 on Saturday to erase a six-stroke deficit and take a seven-shot lead after 36 holes at the 2012 CAA Women's Golf Championships at the Reserve Course of the St. James Plantation. UNCW will enter Sunday's final round with a two-round total of 605 (300-305), seven-strokes in front of first-round leader James Madison (294-318=612). Old Dominion (299-314=613), who was in second place at the beginning of the second round, will open the final 18 holes eight shots back of the Seahawks in third. Senior Sofia Hagsund (72-75) posted a three-over-par result on Saturday to once again pace UNCW's entry. The Landskrona, Sweden product enters Sunday's final round in a tie for second place with James Madison's Nicole Sakamoto (72-75) at three-over-par 147. Georgia State's Charlotte Lorentzen fired a tournament-low three-under 69 on Saturday to take the individual lead with a 36-hole total of even par (75-69=144). Panthers teammate Charlotte Guillleux (76-73=149) is five shots back of Loretzen in fourth. Seahawks sophomore Lori Beth Adams (74-76=150) is tied for fifth with a six-over-par scorecard while sophomore Laverry Kumar (76-77=153) is three shots back of Adams in a tie for 10th. Senior Alei Mitchell (83-77=160) posted a 77 on Saturday to move into a tie for 26th while sophomore Jeanne Metivier (78-84=162) is part of a three-way draw for 30th. The final round of the 2012 CAA Women's Golf Championships will begin Sunday with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:30 a.m. The Seahawks will begin the round on holes No. 1-5. |
