Seahawks Take 12th At Cards Challenge

WESTON, Florida -
The UNCW women's golf team combined for a team total 310 in the final round Tuesday
and claimed 12th place in the Sir Pizza Cards Challenge at the Weston Hills
Country Club.
The Seahawks ended the event with a three-day total of 930 (309-311-310), 17 strokes ahead of 13th-place Cincinnati (310-322-315=947). North Carolina State led wire-to-wire to record its second team victory of the season, posting a tournament-low 282 on the par 72, 6,106-yard layout Tuesday to finish 22 strokes ahead of the field with a 54-hole result of six-under-par 858 (289-287-282). Texas State claimed second, recording an 880 (299-292-289) tournament total while Sunshine State foes Miami (295-299-301=895) and South Florida (300-300-304=904) placed third and fourth, respectively. For UNCW, sophomore Laverry Kumar carded a two-over-par 74 over the final 18 holes to post a three-day total of 13-over-par (75-80-74=229/T-30th). Sophomores Jeanne Metivier (76-79-78=233/T-42nd) and Lori Beth Adams (80-76-79=235/T-48th) finished four and six shots back of Kumar, respectively, while seniors Sofia Hagsund (78-79-79=236/T-50th) and Alei Mitchell (82-77-80=239/T-58th) completed the Seahawks entry. Freshman Mallory Warrick, competing as an individual entry, finished her first collegiate event with a three-round total of 239 (79-77-83/T-58th). NC State's Brittany Marchand (70-71-69=210) defeated teammate Augusta Jones (69-69-72=210) in a playoff to earn individual medalist honors after both players ended the event in a tie for first at six-under-par. South Florida's Kelli Pry (71-72-73=216) finished six shots back of the duo in third with an even par tournament total while four players earned a share of fourth. UNCW is back in action March 9-11 at the LSU Tiger Classic at The University Club in Baton Rouge, La. |
