Boilermakers Cruise To Landfall Title

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Second-round leader Purdue posted a tournament-low 297 during the final round to claim the 10th annual Landfall Tradition by 14 strokes Sunday on the Country Club of Landfall's Jack Nicklaus Course.
Making their seventh appearance in the event, the Boilermakers captured their first Tradition title with a three-round total of 904 (304-303-297). No. 3 Auburn placed second place with a 918 (297-312-309) tournament scorecard while No. 16 Ohio State (308-311-300=919) claimed third and South Carolina (307-314-301=922) took fourth. First-round leader Paula Reto of Purdue carded a two-under-par 70 during the final round to return to the top of the leader board and capture individual medalist honors with a tournament result of two-over-par 218 (71-77-70). Alejandra Cangrejo (75-76-70=221) of Duke and Victoria Trapani (72-73-76=221) of Auburn, the tournament's second-round leader, finished three shots back of Reto in a tie for second. Three players - Katie Burnett (76-76-72=224) of South Carolina and teammates Caroline Powers (73-77-74=224) and Lindsay Solberg (76-77-71=224) of Michigan State - ended the event in a tie for fourth. For host UNCW, senior Sofia Hagsund carded a five-over-par 77 on Sunday to earn a share of 13th place with a three-round total of 229 (76-76-77). Sophomores Laverry Kumar (79-80-83=242/T-71st), Lori Beth Adams (82-80-83=245/T-77th) and Jeanne Metivier (86-83-89=258/86th) and senior Alei Mitchell (85-90-85=260 /87th) rounded the Seahawks entry, which ended the event in 18th place with a 969 (322-319-328) tournament scorecard. |
