Seahawks Claim 16th At BNC

BROWNS SUMMIT, North Carolina - The UNCW women's golf team combined for a team total 325 in the final round Sunday and finished in 16th place at the Bryan National Collegiate at the Bryan Park Champions Course.
Playing in a light rain and chilly temperatures that failed to reach higher than 37 degrees, UNCW finished with a tournament total of 311-328-325=964, 12 strokes ahead of 17th-place College of Charleston.
Freshman Lori Beth Adams posted a 77 in the final round Sunday to finish in a tie for 28th place with a 54-hole scorecard of 76-78-77=231. Junior Sofia Hagsund shot a 79 over the final 18 holes to claim a share of 53rd with a 74-85-79=238 total while freshmen Whitney Rhodes (82-83-83=248/T-79th) and Laverry Kumar (79-84-89=252/T-82nd) and senior Cristina Manrique (87-83-86=256/T-85th) rounded out the Seahawks entry.
Co-host and No. 17 Wake Forest took captured the team title from a talented field that featured 13 top-50 programs with a tournament scorecard of 294-295-306=895. No. 16 Tennessee finished two shots back of the Demon Deacons with a 54-hole total of 288-302-307=897 while No. 22 North Carolina claimed third with a 295-302-312=909 tournament total.
None of the 90 players in the elite field equaled or broke par over the 6,386-yard Champions Course at Bryan Park on Sunday as Tennessee's Erica Popson posted a one-over-par 73 Sunday to claim individual medalist honors with a four-over-par tournament result of 70-77-73=220. Wake Forest's Michelle Shin finished one shot back of Popson in second with a 70-75-76=221 scorecard while Duke's Kim Donovan was two shots back in third at 74-73-75=222.
UNCW returns to action April 4-5 as it hosts the UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic at River Landing Golf Course in Wallace, N.C.
