Hagsund Paces UNCW In Final Round At LSU

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana - Led by senior Sofia Hagsund's final round 73, the UNCW women's golf team combined for a team total 309 and finished 11th as the LSU Golf Classic came to a close Sunday at The University Club.
The Seahawks ended the event with a 54-hole total of 935 (315-311-309), three strokes back of 10th-place Notre Dame (318-310-306=934) and just 11 shots behind fifth-place Virginia (304-304-317=925).
No. 16 Tennessee broke a second-round tie with No. 8 LSU to take home the team tournament title with a three-round total of 16-over-par 880 (298-289-293), two shots ahead of the host Tigers (295-292-295=882). No. 7 UNC Chapel Hill finished third, nine shots back of the Lady Volunteers with a tournament scorecard of 889 (301-300-288).
Hagsund, a senior from Landskrona, Sweden, finished with a one-over-par total on Sunday to pace UNCW and claim a share of 20th place with a three-day total of 228 (78-77-73). Sophomore Laverry Kumar finished one shot back of Hagsund in a tie for 23rd with a 229 (76-74-79) scorecard. Senior Alei Mitchell (82-79-79=240/T-56th) and sophomores Lori Beth Adams (84-81-78=243/61st) and Jeanne Metivier (79-81-84=244/T-62nd) completed UNCW's entry.
UNC Chapel Hill's Catherine O'Donnell (72-71-71) and Tennessee's Erica Popson (75-70-69) were declared individual co-champions after both players finished the event with a two-under-par total of 214. LSU's Madelene Sagstrom claimed third with an even-par result of 216 (71-71-74).
The Seahawks return to action March 19-20 in the Pinehurst Challenge on Pinehurst No. 6, the same course UNCW that captured the 2011 CAA Women's Golf Championship on last April.
