CHARLESTON, South Carolina  - UNCW rising senior Lori Beth Adams carded a two-over-par 73 in the opening round of the 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship Monday at the Country Club of Charleston.

A native of Burlington, N.C., Adams is part of a tie for 20th place after the opening 18 holes. She will begin the second round Tuesday at 1:50 p.m. off the No. 10 tee. The field will be cut to 64 players after Tuesday’s round for match play competition that is scheduled to begin on Wednesday.

Playing in the morning wave of the 156-player event, Adams carded a bogey on the 2nd and a double-bogey on the 5th to post a three-over-par 39 on the front nine. She would rebound with back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th holes before carding a bogey on the 16th to move her back to two-over. 

Fifteen-year-old Allisen Corpuz of Honolulu, Hawaii leads the field following the opening 18 holes after posting a two-under-par 69 during the morning wave. Seven players are two shots back of Corpuz in a tie for second at even par.
