WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women’s golf team returns to action this weekend when it hosts the 14th annual UNCW Seahawk Classic at the River Landing Golf Course in Wallace, N.C.

The 54-hole, five-count-four event will take place on par-72, 6,131-yard layout of the River Course. The teams are scheduled to play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday with action on both days slated to begin with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m.

Live scoring will be available for all three rounds. It can be accessed by clicking on the link at the top of the page.

UNCW welcomes eight teams to the Cape Fear Region for the two-day event, highlighted by defending tournament champion Old Dominion and current Colonial Athletic Association rivals Delaware and Richmond. Future CAA foe Elon and long-time Seahawk Classic participant Longwood are also in the field while Ball State returns to the event for the first time since 2006 and Eastern Michigan and Radford both make their first appearances.

Held annually since the 2000-01 season, the UNCW Seahawk Classic has entertained more 175 teams and 900 players during its history. The Seahawks are the only three-time winner of the event (2004, 2007 & 2010), while East Carolina (2011 & 2012) and NC State (2002 & 2008) have also won the tournament on multiple occasions. Former UNCW standout Carmen Perez-Narbon (2008 & 2010) is the only repeat individual winner in tournament history as players from eight different schools have captured the individual title.

UNCW Head Coach Cindy Ho will go with the same lineup she used during last week’s Bryan National Collegiate for the UNCW Seahawk Classic as seniors Lori Beth Adams, Laverry Kumar and Megan Burnham will be joined by sophomores Annette Lyche and Meghan Theiss. Adams remains the team’s leader with a 75.00 scoring average while Lyche (78.55) moved into second after a solid showing at the BNC that saw her post a career-low 72 in the second round. Senior Jeanne Metivier, junior Mallory Warrick and sophomore Elizabeth Hall will all compete as individual entries.

The UNCW Seahawk Classic will serve as the final tune-up for the Seahawks before they take part in the 2014 CAA Women’s Golf Championship, scheduled for April 18-20 at the St. James Plantation in nearby Southport.
