WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW junior Lori Beth Adams was awarded an individual entry into the 2013 NCAA Women’s Golf Central Regional in Norman,Okla., the NCAA Women’s Golf Selection Committee announced on Monday.

The 2013 NCAA Central Regional will take place May 9-11 at the Jimmy Austin Golf Club and is one of three 54-hole tournaments that will feature 24 teams and six individual entries. The top eight teams and two individuals not part of an advancing team from each of the three regional sites will qualify for the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships, scheduled to be played May 21-24 at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.

“I am really excited for Lori Beth as she is ranked 74th in the country and has played very consistently throughout the year,” said UNCW Head Coach Cindy Ho. “It's a great achievement to qualify for an NCAA Championship.  Obviously, our goal is to qualify as a team, but our program has always had outstanding golfers and with our strength of schedule, it provides the opportunity for a player to have a great year and be rewarded for their performance.”

A native of Burlington, N.C., Adams fashioned a team-low 74.32 stroke average in 11 events played during the 2012-13 season. She posted five top-five finishes and eight top-10 results on her way to earning CAA Player-of-the-Week accolades on six occasions. Currently ranked 74th in the Golfstat Cup rankings, Adams was named to the All-Tournament Team at the CAA Women’s Golf Championships earlier in the month after posting a second-place finish at the event.

“I am honored to represent both UNCW and the Colonial Athletic Association in the NCAA Central Regional,” said Adams. “As a team, we have played against some of the best competition in women's collegiate golf and those experiences have prepared me for what I will face next week. I would happily exchange it for a team invitation, but I am really excited to get an individual invitation. I am ready to play and see what happens.”

Adams is the fourth player in program history to be rewarded with an individual entry to an NCAA Regional as Sofia Hagsund (2010), Michelle Jarman (2006) and Nicole Flood (1990) were also selected during their respective careers.

“Lori Beth is one of the best Division I golfers in the country and has improved tremendously over the last two years,” said Ho. “She has put herself in contention to win a number of times this season and I know she has the ability to have a strong regional performance to earn a berth into The NCAA Championships. We have only had one player (Paula Brzostowski - 1990) make it that far but have been one stroke away two other times (Carmen Perez-Narbon – 2008; Laverry Kumar - 2011).
