WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW women's golf team opens the spring portion of its 2012-13 schedule this weekend as it takes part in the first ever Florida State Match-Up Tournament at the Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla.
Live stats are available for all three rounds of the FSU Match-Up and can be accessed by clicking the link at the top of the page.
The FSU Match-Up Tournament is a 54-hole event that features 12 teams in a unique format that is believed to be the first one of its kind in NCAA Women's Golf. The twelve teams will tee off in twosomes for the first two rounds and then in a final round shotgun in threesomes. The twosomes will consist of the partner teams playing together and will see Florida State & Texas A&M, Oklahoma & Georgia, Notre Dame & Michigan, Tennessee & Texas San Antonio, Furman & Kansas, and UNC Greensboro & UNCW team up for the 2013 edition of the event.
The Match-Up champion will be determined by taking the best four scores from the partners (which is a total of ten players) and the worst score to make the Match Up team total. At the end of the tournament, the teams with the lowest score will win the Match Up. Individual and team champions will also be crowned during the event.
Junior Lori Beth Adams will once again anchor the UNCW lineup after pacing the Seahawks with a 74.10 stroke average and four top-10 finishes in five fall events. Fellow junior Jeanne Metivier and sophomore Mallory Warrick are also back in the lineup after appearing in three and four tournaments, respectively, during fall competition.
Junior Meghan Burham will see her first action of the season in the FSU Match-Up while sophomore Mattie Tobey, a transfer from Texas Tech, will also see first action as she makes her UNCW debut after joining the Seahawks program for the spring semester.
Following its appearance in the FSU Match-Up, UNCW will return to action March 8-10 in the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.
