Bjork Grabs Share Of Lead At European Am

- UNCW incoming freshman Johanna Bjork carded a five-under-par 66 to earn a
share of the lead after the opening round of the 2012 International European
Ladies' Amateur Championship Wednesday at the Diners Golf & Country Club.
A native of Helsingborg, Sweden, Bjork is tied with Texas A&M rising junior Katerina Ruzickova (Czech Republic) and Andrea Vilarasau Amoros (Spanish) for the lead after the opening 18 holes. Shannon Aubert (France) is one shot back of the trio in sole possession of fourth place. Bjork got off to a torrid start on the par 71 layout Wednesday, fashioning an impressive six-under 30 on the front nine that was highlighted by an eagle on the par-four fourth hole. On the back side, Bjork pared the first five holes until she gave back her only stroke of the round with a bogey on the par-five 15th. She ended the day with pars on the final three holes to finish her opening round at five-under. Bjork is joined in the 144-player field by UNCW rising junior Jeanne Metivier, who carded a three-over 74 Wednesday and is tied for 77th after the first day of competition. The 2012 International European Ladies' Amateur Championship is a 72-hole, four round stroke play event. Second round action is scheduled for Thursday with the third and fourth rounds slated for Friday and Saturday, respectively. |
