COLUMBUS, Ohio - The UNCW women's golf team turned in a team-total 322 on Friday and remained in 22nd place after 36 holes of the 2012 NCAA Women's golf Central Regional on the Scarlet Course of the Ohio State Golf Club.
The Seahawks have combined for a two-round total of 323-322=654, two shots back of Texas-San Antonio (317-326=643) and just six strokes off the pace of in-state rival East Carolina (329-310=639).
"There were a lot of difficult pin placements today and our players continued to struggle on the greens, both in reading them and getting the proper speed on their putts," said UNCW Head Coach Cindy Ho. "I felt like our ball striking was good enough to score better today, but we haven't gotten a feel for the greens and that has really hurt us."
No. 3 Southern California expanded its lead over the field on Friday after combining for a two-over-par result of 290 to take a 12-shot lead with a 36-hole result of 298-290=598. No. 10 Vanderbilt (308-292=600) moved into second place with a four-over-par score on Friday while No. 27 Virginia (308-296=604) took over third. No. 33 Purdue (301-307=608) and No. 21 Oregon (308-300=608) are tied for fourth.

"I was pleased with Laverry's ability to bounce back with a better round today," said Ho. "It will be important for the team to put the first two rounds behind us and go out tomorrow and play with confidence, trust our games and finish with a good round to end the regional."
USC's Lisa McCloskey posted a four-under-par 68 and jumped to the top of the individual leader board with a three-under-par tournament total of 73-68=141.
