“I’m very proud of our student-athletes and the work they demonstrated in the classroom,” said Kelly Mehrtens, UNCW’s athletic director. “It speaks volumes about their work and dedication, and tells me that they understand and appreciate the high academic standards and expectations that we have for them.
“I’m also proud of the coaching staff and support personnel who have been there to create the level of support that our student-athletes need. It’s also a tribute to the members of the Seahawk Club, whose contributions make these types of successes possible.”
The group posted an impressive 3.008 GPA last semester and carries an overall cumulative GPA of 2.996. Sixteen student-athletes compiled a perfect 4.00 GPA, while 95 earned a 3.500 or better.
“On behalf of the faculty, we’re delighted with these figures,” said Tammy Hunt, Chair of the Department of Management in the Cameron School of Business and Chair of the institution’s Athletic Council. “We’re very pleased with our student-athletes. It’s a testimony to the fact that our academic advisors and coaches put academics first.”
