As the only All-American selection in the soccer program’s history, Gene Borowski was a defensive force during his four years with the program.
A sweeper, Borowski anchored the defense for former Coach Calvin Lane from 1973-76.  The Maryland native made the NAIA All-District 29 Team three times, earning Second-Team honors in 1973 and 1974 and First-Team laurels in 1975.
Borowski put together his finest season in 1975, collecting Team MVP, All-District, All-South and All-American honors as the Seahawks rolled to a 13-2 record. With Borowski directing traffic, the Seahawks held opponents to just six goals and recorded 10 shutouts that season.
In Borowski’s four seasons, the Seahawks compiled a 37-24-2 record and captured NAIA District 29 titles in 1974 and 1975. He finished his career with 14 goals and six assists.
Borowski graduated Magna Cum Laude with his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from UNCW in 1977 and graduated with High Honors from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.
