(This is the first in a series of capsules highlighting the successful 2011-12 sports season at UNCW)

    The Seahawk volleyball team made great strides in Amy Bambenek's third season by posting the most conference wins for the program since 1988. UNCW upset first-place James Madison, 3-1, in late October and knocked off William & Mary twice during the regular season for the first time. Led by All-CAA selection Christi Laite, a powerful middle hitter, the team returns a bevy of young talent for 2012-13.
