COLLEGE PARK, Maryland – Junior Hannah Stephenson set a Colonial Athletic Association championship record with a time of 54.13 seconds in the 100 Backstroke to lead a contingent of 16 UNCW swimmers into Friday’s championship session at the Eppley Recreation Center.
Stephenson, who also broke her own UNCW record in the event, topped the previous record of 54.35 set just last season with her NCAA B cut qualifying time.
In the 400 IM, Casie Boyle advanced to the finals with a time of 4:26.05, which is now fifth best on UNCW’s records list.
Catherine Gargula’s time of 54.67 was a career best for her and moved her into second all-time at UNCW in the 100 Butterfly.
Behind the effort of Jenson Engen in the 100 Breaststroke, UNCW landed three in the finals with Kathryn Ostrum and Christine Souther joining Engen in the finals. Ostrum touched the wall in a time of 1:02.87 and moved into third all-time while Souther is now fourth 1:02.96. Engen’s time of 1:01.15 gives her the second fastest time at UNCW.

In the 100 Backstroke, Chelsea Tomko swam 55.40, second all-time, advanced to the finals alongside Stephenson.
