WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior backstroke standout Valtteri Halonen was named Colonial Athletic Association Swimmer-of-the-Week after an impressive performance against Tennessee in the season opener.
Halonen, the reigning CAA Champion in the 200 Backstroke, won the same event against the Vols with a time of 1:54.75. He added a third-place finish in the 100 Back and swam on UNCW’s third-place 200 Medley Relay to open the meet.
The Seahawks dropped both meets to the visiting Vols with the men falling 167-133 and the women 178-116.
UNCW returns to action on Oct. 12 with a pair of dual meets against former conference foes Richmond and Old Dominion.
