UNCW Impressive In Sweep Of Cougars

Release: 01/14/2012 WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Anna Munger and Carly Tanner won three events and the men's 200 Medley Relay opened the meet with a school record as UNCW swept College of Charleston in swimming and diving action on Saturday at the Seahawk Natatorium. The women earned a 183-109 victory while the men checked in with a 168-121 win. Munger and Tanner both swam legs on the winning 200 Medley Relay before winning the 50 and 100 Freestyles and the 100 and 200 Breastroke events, respectively. The relay tandem of Valtteri Halonen, C.J. Fiala, Stephen Conrad and Joe Gallene posted a winning time of 1:31.69 to set a venue standard that stood since 2010. Halonen also added wins in the 100 and 200 Backstrokes. Michael Williams narrowly missed setting another pool record when he won the 100 Freestyle with a time of 45.97, less than a half second off the school record. In diving, Meg Gildea won both the 1 and 3-meter boards with scores of 233.17 and 241.27 points, respectively. UNCW returns to the pool on Jan. 28 against Wingate. |
