WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior Valtteri Halonen won three individual events and swam on a winning relay as UNCW swept visiting Wingate in swimming and diving action on Saturday at the Seahawk Natatorium.

The Seahawk men edged the Bulldogs, 138.5-121.5, while the women won a lopsided meet by a score of 149-108.

Halonen helped the UNCW men open the meet with a win in the 400 Medley Relay by swimming the leadoff leg of the relay. He later added wins in the 200 Freestyle (1:43.97), 100 Butterfly (50.45) and 200 Backstroke (1:50.63).

On the women side, sophomore Jenson Engen won two individual events and swam too on the winning 400 Medley Relay. Engen gave UNCW wins in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke with times of 1:04.14 and 2:22.07, respectively.

Senior Joe Gallene rounded out UNCW’s multi-event winners, taking both the 50 and 100 Free.

Other event winners for UNCW were Danielle Binkauskas (100 Free), Catherine Gargula (100 Back), Michael Baric (100 Back), Rachel Sears (50 Free), Hannah Stephenson (200 Back), Emily Schwartz (500 Free) and Sara Smith (100 Fly).

The Seahawks close out their home schedule on Jan. 25 with an 11 a.m. start against Virginia Tech. UNCW will recognize their seniors prior to the meet.
