WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW men's and women's swimming teams have been recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as Scholar All-American teams for the Fall, 2012, Semester.

The CSCAA presents the award to teams who achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher. The UNCW men fashioned a team GPA of 3.06, while the women compiled a 3.09.

"This is very important to us because we emphasize academics first," said 36-year veteran coach Dave Allen. "The top responsibility for our student-athletes is to take academics seriously and work hard in the classroom. The primary mission of the university is to prepare our students for the future and this fits into that picture."

A total of 64 schools were honored on the men's side, including four from North Carolina (UNCW, Davidson, Duke and Gardner-Webb) and three from the Colonial Athletic Association (UNCW, Drexel, Towson).

There were 136 women's teams recognized overall. Seven CAA schools (UNCW, Drexel, James Madison, Northeastern, Old Dominion, Towson and William & Mary) made the list and eight institutions from North Carolina (UNCW, Davidson, Duke, East Carolina Gardner-Webb, UNC Asheville, UNC Chapel Hill and N.C. State) were featured.

The men's team recently captured its 12th consecutive Colonial Athletic Association championship, and the women placed fourth in the competition in Fairfax, Va.
