WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The coaching carousel that revolves around college basketball has finally stopped at the right spot for former UNCW assistant coach Rodney Terry. The 43-year-old University of Texas aide was named on Thursday to head up the program at Fresno State.

Terry becomes the sixth coach with UNCW ties to become a current NCAA Division I head coach. The others include Brad Brownell (Clemson), John Calipari (Kentucky), Billy Donlon (Wright State), Frank Haith (Missouri) and Jeff Reynolds (Air Force).

Terry, who played point guard at St. Edward's University in Austin, spent four seasons on Jerry Wainwright's staff at UNCW from 1988-99 through 2001-02 before moving back to Austin. He has been an aide for veteran coach Rick Barnes for the last nine seasons, taking part in four Sweet 16s, the Final Four in 2003 and the Elite Eight in 2006 and 2008.

Terry, who replaced Steve Cleveland, worked as a high school coach in Texas and on the staff at Baylor prior to coming to UNCW. He was a three-sport standout at Angleton High School in basketball, football and baseball.

Fresno State went 14-17 overall last season and wound up 6-10 in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The Bulldogs were ousted by Nevada in the opening round of the conference tournament in early March.
