Kirsteier Sets Pool Mark At Capital City Invite

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNC Wilmington rising junior Caitlin Kirsteier won the 50 Meter Butterfly in a pool record time of 27.45 at the Capital City Invite as she prepares for the US Open later this summer in Federal Way, Wash.

Kirsteier moved into the World’s Top 100 with the performance and posted the seventh best time by an American this year. She also set a pool record in winning the 100 Fly with a time of 1:01.88 later in the meet.

Joining Kirsteier and swimming with the Cape Fear Aquatic Club were rising junior Andrew Rogers and rising sophomore Bobby Guntoro.

Rogers’ best finish was in the 50 Meter Backstroke when he finished third with a time of 28.12 seconds. Guntoro, meanwhile, also finished third in the 100 Fly with a time of 57.42.

All three qualified for the US Open during their collegiate season and training for the event to be held August 4-8 at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.

Next up for the trio as they continue their training for the Open will be the Eastern Invitational in Greensboro on June 26-28. The meet will be held at the Lindley Park Pool.
