BROOKLINE, Mass. – Drew Farber’s leadoff homer in the top of the ninth lifted UNCW to a 3-2 win over Northeastern to clinch the Colonial Athletic Associaiton series on Friday at Friedman Diamond.

The Seahawks ran their record to 28-24 with their fourth consecutive win and improved to 10-8 in the league. The Huskies, who need to win on Saturday to qualify for next week’s conference tournament, dropped to 24-27 and 8-12.

For Farber, it was his second homer of the season and came off losing pitcher Mike Fitzgerald (3-3).

UNCW reliever Christian MacDonald (2-4) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief and Kelly Secrest notched his seventh save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Farber was joined by Luke Dunlap with a two-hit game. NU’s Jason Vosler also had two hits.

Freshman Teddy Cillis belted his second homer of the season to give UNCW a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Next up: Both teams finish out the regular season with a noon start on Saturday.

How it happened: After UNCW stranded a runner at third in the seventh inning, Farber stepped up for the Seahawks and belted a 1-2 offering from Fitzgerald over the bullpen in leftfield for the go-ahead run.

Inside the box score: UNCW left eight runners on base and was 2-for-10 in RBI opportunities … The Seahawks were 4-for-9 when leading off an inning … UNCW pitchers allowed just one leadoff hitter to reach safely and held NU to 1-for-6 in RBI opportunities.

Notes: Secrest moved into second all-time on UNCW’s saves list with 16 … His seven saves this season rank tied for sixth on the single season list … The Seahawks have now won their last three weekend series.
