|Adams, Lyche Lead Seahawk CAA Honorees|
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Led by senior Lori Beth Adams and sophomore Annette Lyche, four UNCW women’s golfers were recognized as the Colonial Athletic Association handed out its annual awards Wednesday.
Adams and Lyche were both named First-Team All-CAA, while sophomore Meghan Theiss was a Second-Team All-CAA pick. Senior Jeanne Metivier rounded out the Seahawk award winners when she was named to the league’s All-Academic Team.
“It is a great honor to have three players named All-CAA by the league’s coaches,” said UNCW Head Coach Cindy Ho. “Lori Beth had another great year and for her to end her career as a three-time All-CAA selection is a tremendous accomplishment. For Annette and Meghan to transfer into the program at the semester break and play well enough to earn all-conference recognition is a testament to their hard work and their ability to step in right away and perform. Both players will have a significant impact in our program moving forward and I am excited to see them continue their success here at UNCW.”
Adams earned All-CAA distinction for the third time in her career. The Burlington, N.C., product was named First-Team All-CAA last season and earned Second-Team honors as a sophomore. The reigning CAA Player-of-the-Year, Adams fashioned a team-low 74.84 stroke average in 26 rounds during the 2013-14 regular season when she posted six top-20 results, including three top-10 finishes, in nine events. She captured her first collegiate title with a four-shot victory at the UNCW Seahawk Classic and tied for second at the CAA Women’s Golf Championships to earn All-Tournament Team honors at the event for the third consecutive season.
On Monday, Adams received an individual invitation to the 2014 NCAA Division I East Regional at the SouthWood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla. It marks the second consecutive season Adams has earned a bid to postseason play.
Lyche earned First-Team All-CAA accolades with a 78.14 stroke average in 14 rounds this spring after joining the program at the semester break from Baylor. The Baerum, Norway, native posted a pair of top 10 finishes to close out the season, earning a share of seventh place in the UNCW Seahawk Classic before posting an eighth-place finish in the CAA Championship.
Theiss garnered Second-Team All-CAA honors after she carded a 78.50 stroke average in 14 rounds following her transfer from Louisville at the semester break. The Lagrange, Ky., product capped the campaign with two top-10 finishes. She claimed a share of seventh place in the UNCW Seahawk Classic and recorded an eighth-place result in the CAA Championship.
Metivier, meanwhile, was named to the All-Academic Team after a senior season that saw her take part in four events and post a 85.91 stroke average in 12 rounds. In the classroom, the Arcachon, France, native is a three-time WGCA Academic All-Scholar selection that has made the Dean’s List each of her seven semesters at UNCW and boasts a 3.97 cumulative grade point average.
“Jeanne has been an outstanding student-athlete for four years,” said Ho. “She has been a WGCA Academic All-Scholar on three occasions and has helped us win two CAA Championships during her career. She is a very hard worker, both on the course and in the classroom, and she always what she had to do in order to keep her grades up.”
