WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW freshman shortstop Lauren Moore has been named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Rookie-of-the-Week, it was announced on Tuesday.

Moore becomes the third UNCW rookie to be honored this season as she joins fellow Seahawk newcomers Peyton Jordan (Feb. 11) and Merritt Wilkinson (Feb. 18) as recipients of the weekly award.

“Lauren was an extremely disciplined hitter this week,” said UNCW Head Coach Kristy Norton. “Hopefully this honor will give her the confidence she needs moving forward.”

A native of Goldsboro, N.C., Moore went 6-for-12 at the plate in leading UNCW to a 3-2 record last week. Moore also drew three walks and was hit by a pitch once as she fashioned a .625 on-base percentage. On the base paths, Moore was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts and scored a team-high four runs during the five-game stretch.

Moore opened the week with a hit and stolen base in the Seahawks’ doubleheader split with Marshall and North Carolina A&T on March 20 before going 5-for-7 at the plate with four runs scored and three stolen bases to help UNCW take two out of three games in their league series at Drexel over the weekend.

UNCW (15-15) returns to action March 29-30 as it hosts Delaware in a three-game CAA series at Boseman Field.
