MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina –Ryan LaGrange knocked in two runs and was one of five Seahawks with two hits as UNCW outlasted Coastal Carolina, 7-3, in a four-hour, 15 minute marathon baseball game at Ticketreturn.com Field.
The Seahawks picked up their first road win of the season and improved to 9-10. It was UNCW’s first win at Coastal Carolina since 2008. CCU, meanwhile, dropped to 9-11 on the season.
Senior Christian MacDonald (1-2) picked up the win with two innings of one-hit, shutout baseball. He finished with three strikeouts. Freshman Cory Gantz made his first collegiate start and allowed one run over four innings.
CCU starter Cole Schaefer (3-2) took the loss for the second straight game. He allowed four runs on seven hits before leaving after 3.2 innings.
Tyler Chadwick, Connor Owings and Colin Hering each had two hits for Coastal.
How it happened: After seeing Coastal tie the game with a run in the bottom of the third, Luke Dunlap opened the fourth with a walk and moved around to third when Bass singled to shortstop and throw from shortstop sailed into the dugout. Terence Connelly singled in both runners to give the Seahawks the lead and Golden plated the final run with a squeeze bunt.
