WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team continues its 18-game homestand this weekend as it hosts Presbyterian in a three-game series at Boseman Field.
The Seahawks and Blue Hose are scheduled to play a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday before wrapping up the weekend with a single game Sunday at Noon. Live stats and video streaming are available for all three games and can be accessed by clicking on the links at the top of the page.
UNCW (12-10) is back in action after taking one of three games during a mid-week series against Youngstown State at Boseman Field. Senior Brittany Gamby went 4-for-7 at the plate against the Penguins to increase her team-leading batter average to .426 on the season. Junior Jessica Rappe also had a solid series, recording five hits in nine trips to the plate to move her average above the .300 mark for the season (.311).
Junior Casey Rowland had a strong series in the circle, posting a 0.55 earned run average in 12.2 innings of work.
Presbyterian (10-8) makes their way to the Port City following a busy week that has included doubleheaders against North Carolina Central and South Carolina State. Hope Rogers has paced the Blue Hose lineup in the early going with a .426 batting average while Kersten Legacki has driven in a team-high 17 runs to go along with a .396 batting average. In the circle, Head Coach ---- has relied upon a quartet of pitchers, including Sydney Siegler, who leads the Presbyterian pitching staff in appearances (11), innings pitched (56.1), complete games (4) and strikeouts (37).
Presbyterian holds a 5-3 lead in the series that dates back to the 2010 season. The two squads are squaring off for the second season in a row after meeting for a pair of neutral-site contests last March during the North Carolina Central Eagle Challenge in Raleigh. The two teams split those two contests, with UNCW taking the first game, 7-3, before Presbyterian took the nightcap, 5-4, in eight innings.
UNCW wraps up its 18-game homestand next week with mid-week doubleheaders against Marshall (March 19) and North Carolina A&T (March 20).
