WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW freshman pitcher Peyton Jordan has been named CAA Rookie-of-the-Week, it was announced by league officials on Tuesday.

“Peyton had great command of her pitches all weekend,” said UNCW Head Coach Kristy Norton. “I thought she showed great poise to close out the last inning for her first collegiate win when she went strike out, pop-out, strike out.”

A native of Waxhaw, N.C., Jordan posted a 1-1 mark in three appearances during the Charleston Southern Softball Tournament last weekend, allowing four unearned runs while striking out 10 and walking just two in 12.1 innings in the circle.

Jordan began the tournament with a four-hit shutout of Maryland-Eastern Shore in a collegiate debut that saw strike out eight in the 7-0 victory. She followed that performance with a pair of relief appearances against Elon and Charleston Southern in which she surrendered four unearned runs in 5.1 innings of work.

The Seahawks (1-2) return to action Friday as they open the home portion of their 2014 schedule with games against Norfolk State (2 p.m.) and UMBC (4:30 p.m.) as part of the Seahawk Invitational.
