CHARLESTON, South Carolina – Led by First-Team All-CAA selection senior Christi Laite, a total of four UNCW volleyball players were recognized as the Colonial Athletic Association handed out its annual awards Thursday during the league’s championship banquet.

Sophomore Meredith Peacock and freshman Nicole Lott joined Laite on the all-conference teams as both players were both recognized at Second-Team All-CAA selections while Lott was also named to the CAA All-Rookie Team. Junior Morgan Kline rounded the team’s award recipients as she was recognized on the CAA All-Academic squad.

A native of Severna Park, Md., Laite became the first Seahawk player to be named First-Team All-CAA since Amy Chilausky earned the honor during the 1993 season. She also became just the second player in school history to earn all-conference recognition three times during her career, joining Yvonne Helton (1987-89) in that exclusive category.

Laite paced the Seahawks attack during her senior season, averaging 3.24 kills per set while posting a .272 hitting percentage to rank among the top six players in the league in both categories.  Laite also played a key role in the team’s defensive efforts, finishing the regular season third on the team with 87 total blocks to give her a 3.31 points per set average that ranked sixth among all players in the league.

Peacock earned Second-Team All-CAA accolades for a breakout sophomore season that saw her lead the CAA and rank among the top 10 players in the nation in blocks per set (1.49) to highlight a Seahawks’ blocking effort that has also ranked among the nation’s elite for most of the season. The Charlotte, N.C., product has also contributed on the offensive end; completing the regular season with 162 kills (1.72 kills per set) on the strength of a .252 hitting percentage that was good for ninth in the league in that category.

Lott, meanwhile, turned in one of the best freshman performances in school history as she is the first Seahawk newcomer to earn both All-CAA and CAA All-Rookie accolades in her first season with the program. A native of West Chester, Pa., Lott was a force on both sides of the ball, averaging 2.22 kills and 2.03 digs per set to rank third and fourth, respectively, on the team in those categories. Lott also played a key role in the team’s serving success, tallying 26 service aces to sit third in the CAA in that category and put the Seahawks among the 50 teams in the nation in service aces per set (1.47).

Kline was selected to the All-Academic Team following a junior season that saw her rank second on the team in kills per set (2.63) and third in digs per frame (2.81). A member of the University Honors Program, Kline is a Biology major with a 3.688 cumulative GPA. She has been named to the Dean’s List on three occasions (Fall 2011, Spring 2012 & Spring 2013).

No. 3 seed UNCW will open the 2013 CAA Volleyball Championship Friday with first-round match against No. 6 seed William & Mary at 7 p.m.
