WILMINGTON, North Carolina – After playing key roles in UNCW’s sweep of its weekend matches, sophomore Meredith Peacock and freshman Nicole Lott were recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association on Monday.

Peacock was honored as Co-Defensive Player-of-the-Week along with William & Mary’s Carolyn Albright while Lott garnered Rookie-of-the-Week accolades for the third time this season.

“Our entire team overall had another outstanding performance this past weekend and everyone played with tremendous effort and enthusiasm,” said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. “Both Meredith and Nicole played a huge part in our offensive and defensive success.

Both players were instrumental in leading UNCW to 3-0 victories over Towson and Delaware last weekend at Hanover Hall that moved the Seahawks to 8-1 at home this season.

Peacock averaged 2.17 blocks and 1.50 kills per set as she paced a Seahawks blocking effort that averaged 3.83 blocks per set. The Charlotte, N.C., product opened the weekend by notching seven total blocks (two solo) and five kills against Towson and followed that performance with six block assists and four kills versus Delaware.

Bambenek said, “Meredith has been a constant blocker all season, but I’m sure this will be a very memorable weekend for her because Meredith’s blocking secured match points against both Towson and Delaware.

Lott, meanwhile, averaged 4.67 kills and 1.83 digs per set and fashioned a .444 hitting percentage to help Seahawks post a hitting percentage above .300 in both of its matches. A native of West Chester, Pa., Lott notched a match-high 16 kills and .406 hitting percentage against Towson before tallying 12 kills on the strength of a .500 hitting percentage versus Delaware. Lott also chipped in nine digs against the Blue Hens to finish just shy of a double-double.

Bambenek added, “It’s rare for a freshman to attack at such a high efficiency, but Nicole played fearless all weekend and adjusted well to every situation.”

UNCW (16-8; 5-5 CAA) returns to action this week as it closes out the home portion of its 2013 schedule with matches against Northeastern (Nov. 8) and Hofstra (Nov. 10).
