WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Just hours after taking part in the Midnite Madness festivities, the UNCW women’s basketball team got to work on Saturday with its first official practice of the 2013-14 campaign.

There were plenty of fresh faces on the floor for second-year Head Coach Adell Harris as she formally welcomed six freshmen into the lineup.  Harris also returns three letterwinners from last season’s squad, including junior and CAA All-Tournament Team selection Kelva Atkins.

The team will once again take advantage of NCAA bylaw, which allows women's basketball programs to begin practice up to 40 days prior to the date of the institution's first regular-season contest.  During that span, the Seahawks cannot engage in more than 30 days of countable athletically related activities prior to its first regular-season contest.

UNCW will host UNC Pembroke in an exhibition contest Nov. 4 before opening the regular season Nov. 9 with a 1 p.m. matinee at national power Notre Dame.
