WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW women's tennis team continues its four-match home stand on Sunday, Feb. 24, when state rival Elon visits Wilmington for a 1 p.m. test. The match was originally scheduled for Friday, Feb. 22.
The Seahawks, 3-1, are returning to the courts after cruising past Campbell, 4-0, last Saturday in their home opener. Coach Evan Clark's squad will then face Wright State on Monday at 2 p.m. in back-to-back matches for the netters.
Sophomore Kelly Cameron (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and junior Angie Sekely (Mississauga, Ontario) are still undefeated in singles play. Cameron stands 4-0 and Sekely owns a 3-0 mark. The Seahawks are 16-5 in singles and 4-5 in doubles action early in the season.
Elon, coached by former UNCW standout Elizabeth (Perry) Anderson, is off to a strong 6-1 start. The Phoenix have won six consecutive matches after falling to No. 8 UNC Chapel Hill in their opener, 7-0, on Jan. 23. The Seahawks won last year's installment in the series, 5-2, on Feb. 28, 2012.
Wright State, meanwhile, travels to the coast to play UNCW and Coastal Carolina. The Raiders and Coach Sean McCaffrey are 3-4 this season after dropping a 7-0 decision to IPFW on Feb. 10. The Raiders compete in the Horizon League.
