Seahawks Sweep CAA Men's Tennis Honors

Release: 02/12/2013 WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Junior Rafael Aita has been named the Colonial Athletic Association's Men's Tennis Player-of-the-Week and joined partner Sam Williams on the league's Doubles Team-of-the-Week. The Seahawks swept the CAA's honors in the first listing of the spring season. UNCW, ranked 39th in the latest poll by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, has bolted out to a 5-1 record early in the 2013 campaign. Aita, from Lima, Peru, has played No. 1 in all six matches with a 5-1 record. The quick netter has won three consecutive matches, including a big upset over 12th-ranked Florent Diep of Florida, 6-4, 6-3. Aita soared to No. 17 in this week's ITA poll after starting the season at No. 37. Aita and Williams, from Surrey, England, are unbeaten in doubles and moved up to No. 45 in the ITA poll. The pair has surrendered just 13 games thus far in playing one match at No. 1, three at No. 2 and one at the No. 3 slot. The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 20, with a 2 p.m. match at South Carolina. |
