WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - The UNCW women's basketball team will once again take part in
the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's "Play 4Kay" program, designed
to raise awareness for breast cancer research, when it hosts George Mason in a 7
p.m. contest Thursday at Trask Coliseum.
"We are excited to take part in the WBCA's 'Play 4Kay' program," said UNCW Head Coach Adell Harris. "Breast cancer awareness is a cause that is very important to the entire women's basketball program here at UNCW and we look forward to doing our part to help raise awareness for this worthwhile cause." The team will once again wear all-pink uniforms for the contest, which will serve as the program's Molly Maid Pink Game, along with their traditional pink shooting shirts, socks and shoe laces for the matchup with the Patriots. The jerseys and other pink items were made possible through generous donations from various UNCW women's basketball alumnae. The team is encouraging all fans to wear pink to the game and the UNCW ticket office will offer a $3 ticket to anyone who is wearing pink. Fans who show up to the game without any pink on will be able to purchase pink UNCW t-shirts for $10, with proceeds going to support the Wilmington chapter of the Pretty In Pink Foundation. Named in honor for former North Carolina State and USA Basketball Head Coach Kay Yow, the Play 4Kay program is a global, unified effort for a nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
