FAIRFAX, Virginia - Back by meet-record setting performances from the men's 200 Medley Relay and sophomore Valtteri Halonen in the 100 Backstroke, UNCW's men's team remained in first-place at the Patriot Invitational on Friday at the McKay Natatorium.

The Seahawk women dropped back into seventh entering the final day of racing on Sunday.

The 200 Medley Relay of Halonen, C.J. Fiala, Eric Conrad and Joe Gallene fashioned a meet-record time of 1:30.34, breaking the previous mark of 1:31.77 set in 2009 by the Seahawks.

Halonen would add a second meet record later in the meet when he topped the field in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 49.82 seconds. The sophomore added a second-place finish in the 100 Butterfly behind teammate Stephen Conrad who earned the win with a time of 49.48.

Carly Tanner gave the Seahawk women a boost in the with a second-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke and also swimming a leg of UNCW's runner-up 200 Medley Relay of Hannah Stephenson, Jensen Engen and Rachel Sears.

Sophomore Chase Seymour scored for the men with an eighth-place finish in the 3-meter dive.

UNCW holds a 579-541 lead over host George Mason in the men's meet. The women, meanwhile, trail Seton Hall by one point for sixth.

The meet concludes on Saturday.
